Katie Torn (b. 1982, New York, New York) integrates 3D computer graphics and video to create vibrants prints and experimental moving image works. Using the detritus of the Internet and consumer culture, Torn’s digital assemblages carry traces of past commodity eras and web browsing histories. "My work offers a vision of a new type of 'natural' substance that originates in the virtual and melds organic and synthetic materials,” Torn explains. In her fantastical worlds, body and object are often interchangeable, reflecting how the formation of identity is often bound to the plastic commodities that surround us from childhood.

Torn holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Past exhibitions and screenings of her work have been presented throughout the United States and internationally in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Brazil and Israel. Notable presenters of her work include Wayne State University in Detroit, XPO Gallery in Paris, Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, Center for Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv, PS1 MoMA in New York, Tate Britain in London, MOCA Los Angeles, and bitforms gallery in New York. Torn was a Visions Fellow at Eyebeam Art + Technology Center, and artist-in-residence at LMCC Process Space on Governor’s Island, and The Institute of Electronic Arts in Alfred, New York.
