THE ARMORY SHOW 2020

March 5 – 8, 2020
Booth P7, Pier 94, New York, NY

THE FAIR
For our third and final year at The Armory Show, Upfor presented new work by Julie Green from the painting series Fashion Plate and First Meal. The presentation was awarded the fourth annual Presents Booth Prize.

In the Fashion Plate series, fashion serves as a focal point for meditations, both personal and historical, on a range of topics from gender norms to the effects of industrialization. Using gessoed Chinet plates as substrate, Green’s diverse media include precious metal leaf, acrylic and glow-in-the-dark paint, collage, and pigment made with industrial sludge. First Meal is an ongoing painting series depicting first meals eaten by wrongfully convicted persons after release from prison, created on pieces of Tyvek and likewise encompassing diverse media. Green's paintings are created from stories generously provided by the wrongfully convicted and, unless otherwise noted for specific works, the Center on Wrongful Convictions, Bluhm Legal Clinic at Northwestern University.
