THE WORK
With endless information at our fingertips and the ability to “connect” with friends and followers around the clock, it would seem we no longer have use for the loneliness and existential uncertainty that have characterized human experience. Though we make less, we have everything; bored with what (or who’s) in front of us, we can at any moment swipe right for better options. What, then, is missing?

With narrative paintings and episodic video works, Heidi Hahn and Shana Moulton assure us that our crisis of meaning is alive and well in this exhibition guest curated by Jordana Zeldin. Presenting us with visually enticing yet disquieting tragicomedies, the characters Hahn and Moulton explore in their work attempt in vain to replenish their spiritual deficiencies and fend of the persistence of alienation.

Heidi Hahn's layered, paraffin-infused paintings use a consistent cast of characters to explore psychological narratives around inhabiting and representing the female body. Meanwhile, Shana Moulton’s humorous videos are built around her alter ego, Cynthia, a character loosely rooted in Moulton’s experiences growing up in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, in a senior-citizen trailer park owned by her parents.
